I took this on July 3, but posting it today (hey, that's pretty good for me - and Art, I think your idea of an archive challenge is great). This creature was on my screen tent on my deck as I was leaving for an interview, so I snapped a quick one of him. I wish I had had the time (and ability) to put something in the image to give an idea of perspective. Its body was about 3 or 3.5 inches long, and then the antennae would be in addition to that.

Entomologist friends - what say ye? What manner of beast is this? Enormous grasshopper? Katydid? Locust and I should prepare for swarms?

UPDATE: Google images show that this is definitely a katydid!

Freedom

I actually took this in 2008 (sorry Art!) in Jamestown, VA, and revisited the image today. I took it with my old, no longer functioning Konica Minolta. Today I reworked it with Topaz Adjust smooth filter, then Color Efex Pro Vignette filter.

Sun Bud

I took this yesterday, but just now have had time to load to my laptop and check it out and upload it here. I had a birdfeeder with sunflower seeds in it at my deck this winter and spring, and two volunteer sunflower sprouts are now by the footings of the deck. :)
