A Year in the Life - Dailies 2009-2010

Photo diary project in which I would ideally take one photo a day as a sort of 'image diary' of life. However, we all know that I'm not going to take a photo a day, although we can all die of shock if I do find the time to do that. I'd love to have stunning images all, but the main point is to document life through one photo per day.

Miss Spider's Close Up, Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Not great photography since it isn't in super focus (I cropped this down), but I was just impressed with myself that I got close enough to take a shot. Found this spider in my backyard yesterday and was thrilled. I'm not at ease with spiders but always wanted one of these because they are so interesting to look at. This one has made a web in an odd place - a (huge) triangle from halfway up a cypress tree to the ground. Hard to tell from this, but she's at least 3" long.

I also added a less cropped version and a shot of where she has her web set up to the dailies just after this shot in case you are interested.

She's a Female Black and Yellow Garden Spider
(Argiope aurantia) and fairly common in this area.
Miss Spider, uncropped (well, not as much), September 8, 2009

(Argiope aurantia)
She is right in the middle of the image, with a pinecone unfortunately behind her on the ground. You can see here the weird place she made her web stretching from the cypress on the right down to the ground on the left beyond the frame of the image. You can also get a sense of her size here!

SOOC! (I had to have someone tell me a while ago what that means). But I did it! No processing was done on this shot. No sepia chosen or any color correction or modification. The daisies are dead, so their color is natural, and they are sitting on a bed of tan colored pebbles, so that is the background color.

I like it as is, but I'll play with it just for fun.

EDITOR'S PICK, betterphoto.com, September 2009

I realize my last four or five entries have been redundant and I haven't taken any new images - my life seems pretty redundant currently, so I hope you can excuse!

This is yet another take on the tunnel shot of the tunnel between the National Galleries of Art. Honest to goodness, that was the highlight of the galleries for me - I LOVED this tunnel!

This isn't the original, but it is not nearly as processed as the other, so if you were curious . . . :)

If I remember correctly the only processing I did to this was crop, take out a distracting broken tree trunk in the background and another distracting piece and sharpen some. Oh, and neaten up the car (it had white spots on the red paint and a reflection of a house on the right side and fender that I took off since you can't see the house in the photo therefore you shouldn't see the house reflection). And I probably adjusted the light slightly.

This is a model 1949 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. I laid down in the road in front of my house to take this. Reached my hand around to grab at the car ala King Kong movies.

If some of you couldn't tell it's a model car, that's a good thing! It means the effect I was going for might have worked! Thanks for all your kind comments and support on this and my other dailies - cool group of people, fer sher. (and I welcome suggestions on my dailies, too, btw).

Highly processed and slightly weird. I was trying to do a 'George', but too many errors in the processing, I think, especially on the hand.

But it's kind of a fun shot for the dailies.

Thanks to everyone for all your kind comments on my National Gallery of Art pics (previous 2 dailies) and others. Much appreciated!
