Some friends and I went to a fabulous show over the weekend - more on that in later PODs. Or is it PsOD? So sorry I haven't had time to look at your images or comment over the last few days - been swamped! Hopefully tomorrow!

Behind the Curtain

This is another shot I did when I went to NCCAT (http://www.nccat.org), the North Carolina Center for Advancement of Teaching a few years ago. The facility I went to is in Cullowhee in the North Carolina mountains and the area is stunning.

I liked the texture of the wood on the cabin in this shot, and played it up in pp, and I also really liked the tiny blue flowers pattern of the curtain. Reminds me of feed sacks that clothes and all sorts of others things used to be made from. Maybe it is one!

I am really liking using my dailies to work on photos in the archives I haven't had time to work on before! Takes the pressure off in several ways - lets me get through my archives and also gives me time to experiment and apply new knowledge without adding yet more images to my stash!

Thanks for all your comments! Much appreciated!

This is another image that I took way back in2007 on a trip to Jamestown Settlement, VA. I really am liking the idea of going back into the files and working on photos that I didn't have the time or the knowledge to work on before. I used a ton of layers on this, but the one that made the most difference is the texture layer. It is Kim Klassen's pourvous texture. You can find her at http://www.kimklassencafe.com Amazing textures and all kinds of tutorials and goodies on her site.

I have been absent bc I've been trying to get up on the marketing end of things. I have created a facebook page for my photography, which I invite you to visit and 'Like' if the mood strikes you, http://www.facebook.com/KaraStewartArtinPhotography should get you there. It is Kara Stewart, Art in Photography if not and you want to look it up.

I've also created a Squidoo lens (my first so bear with me) for taking dog portraits - http://www.squidoo.com/dog-photography

And then I also created a blog, intended focus is the convergence of writing and photography, which I'd love for you to visit at http://www.karastewartartinphotography.blogspot.com/ Yesterday's blog was, "But I Just Want to Take Photographs!" LOL.

Enjoy creating today!

Another one from the files today. This was from a 2007 visit to Jamestown. Ever feel like you have so many images in your files you haven't had time to process to your satisfaction yet that you could live off them for a year? Yep, that's me.

So trying to go through some of them and finish them instead of taking more and more and never getting to nearly all of them. Some may say this defeats the purpose of a photo a day, but on the other hand, I now know more post processing techniques as well as have seen and read about more photos than I did when I took so of these - so perhaps better prepared to finish the photos now. And I am learning each time I do it, each day I do it. In that sense, it is well earned the photo a day title.

In the sense that these dailies are a photo journal of my year - well, then maybe not so much! :)

I cropped this image, applied fairly minor levels/contrast/sharpness adjustments and then used a Topaz Adjust photo pop filter.

Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!

A shot from the beautiful North Carolina mountains, taken in 2008 while I was attending an NCCAT (NC Center for Advancement of Teaching) session. The mountains and facility were gorgeous and that NCCAT exists to further the education of teachers is/was phenomenal. It has now been hit (50% cut) in budget hard by NC's budget and stand on education issues - I think NC is now 48th or 49th in per pupil spending in education. Says a lot for NC's priority on education in our nation of 50 states - zip, zilch, nada, nothing.

But I thought in this spell of record heat, it would be nice to post an image of the beauty of the lush mountains in western NC (Cullowhee).

Thanks for identifying the Eyed Click Beetle for those who did! Much appreciated. Sorry I haven't commented in the last few days, but been massively busy creating a new gallery on zazzle.

This is a snapshot of the 'photo journal/diary of my year' variety and not of the 'wow, super photo!' variety - terrible with the shadow, dog hair on beetle's rear and all that.

However, that being said, I just had to share this. This beetle was on my front porch yesterday during the middle of a hot (hot) day. It was a quick little sucker, too! But the most amazing thing to me was the size - it was longer than my fingers, and no, I wasn't going to try to get my fingers near enough to it to show you perspective! But easily 3" long, maybe more.

I'd assume those 'eye spots' are to fool predators; ingenious nature is.

Can anyone identify what type of beetle this is? It was FAST, easily spooked (I followed it around the porch trying unsuccessfully to get better shots), out in the heat of the day in NC and B.I.G. Any entomologists care to bite (pun intended, har har har!)?

Another shot of Emmy, my sister's Boston Terrier, today.

Thanks for all the comments and input on my images, everyone!

Dipping into the files for today's posting - this is from the zoo last summer. I thought we could all do with a nice cool shot in the middle of this heat wave! Wouldn't it feel wonderful to swim in there like the seals?

Dog Sit 2

Come on, you know this is goofy funny! This is Samson sitting. Not the most graceful dog, but he's always good for a smile. :)

Whatever He Said, It Must Have Been Pretty Funny

This is my sister and her husband (of Boston Terrier fame) earlier this month in CT. I just love this shot - cracks me up.

Thanks for all your comments and thoughts!

This is from the photo shoot of my sister's Boston Terrier. I just thought her tiny legs were so sweet. Well, too, I really love the way dogs' folds of skin and such look when they sit - silly and cute. You may be seeing some more 'dog sits' from me in the future. Our big dogs look like goofballs from the rear when they sit. :)

God's Child - I was a bit worried about the decapitation aspect of it . . .

Swamp Ghost

I went to the NC Zoo in Asheboro today with a friend and his son. We had a wonderful time but it wore me out! I thought the most interesting animals there were the albino alligators. The zoo bills them as "Swamp Ghosts" and there is a story behind them that they bring luck. You can read about them here: http://www.nczoo.org/events/Swamp_Ghosts.html

Thank you so much for all your comments on my fruit pizza shots, as well as others. I really appreciate it! Too tired to comment tonight but I will look at your lovely shots tomorrow!

Off to eat and collapse . . .

Fruit Pizza

I tried a fruit pizza recipe for the first time yesterday - yummy! Sugar cookie crust, cream cheese (low fat) and Cool Whip (no sugar) topping, then layer the fruit (I used strawberries, blueberries and kiwi as you can see), then glaze (oj, cornstarch, water, etc.). Really, really nice summer dessert! Thanks, Julia! :)
